Course Overview

The objective of this basic instruments course is to provide general training for new assistants and POA students in clinic instrument procedures. This basic course is designed to assist the employee in detailing their roles in facilitating efficient dental clinic operations. The goal of the course is to introduce dental instruments to new staff members in a very practical and useful way.

This course will teach you how to identify the common tools used in dental procedures. This course can be completed in 1.5 to 2 hours depending upon the student and focus on the materials. Previous dental training is not required. You’ll need to know how to navigate buttons on a computer keyboard. The course begins with a video introduction to operative dental instruments. The course then progresses to instruments most used in a basic dental practice.

The course will cover the following:

  • Instruments used for Examining
  • Instruments used for Cleaning
  • Instruments used for Cutting
  • Instruments used for Restoration

Dental instruments can be either hand-held or rotary (for example driven in a handpiece) and some can be of fiber optic light sources and ultrasonic equipment.

Exam and Certificate

A multiple choice exam will be given at the completion of this course. Successful completion of this course require a passing grade of seventy (70) or above. You will have 3 opportunities to take this exam before having to re-register this course. Upon successful completion you will receive a customized Certificate of Successful Completion with your name, the course, and date.
